VoyagePhoenix
May brought us a feature in VoyagePhoenix as part of their Inspiring Conversations series, and it ended up being one of the more reflective pieces I have done.
The interview covers a lot of ground. My 15 years in talent acquisition across tech, biotech, consumer brands, and social impact. My time at Bobbie, where I served as Head of Talent Acquisition and found one of those rare companies where personal and professional values actually align. The restructuring that followed, and why my experience looked nothing like the layoff stories you usually hear.
And then the decision to build Aurora Talent Lab instead of finding something similar.
I talk about what Aurora actually is and why the philosophy behind it matters. Hiring is both a science and a deeply human practice. Chemistry matters. Quality over quantity, every time. What it means to treat every search as its own, starting fresh instead of pulling from a recycled list.
I also get honest about risk. I am a planner by nature. Founding Aurora was the biggest risk I have ever taken. And at a certain point I had to sit with an uncomfortable question: if I believe in making smart, calculated bets, why wasn't I betting on myself?
