In Support: AHRA
This month I traded my desk for the green, volunteering alongside Women in Philanthropy AZ at the Swinging for Hope Golf Classic in support of Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels. Escaping the Phoenix heat for a day in Prescott didn't hurt either.
For those who haven't heard of them, AHRA brings comfort, dignity, and joy to children facing cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Their work shows up in the details that matter most to a family in crisis: Comfycozys for Chemo, free counseling, and direct financial assistance for the everyday costs that pile up during the hardest fight of a family's life.
What stayed with me most was hearing Lorraine share the impact she's made from her own experience. There's a particular kind of power in someone who has lived through the hardest version of a thing and turns it into support for the next family walking in. It reframed the whole day and put a lot into perspective.
The tournament itself was a reminder that showing up for a cause rarely looks glamorous. Sometimes it's a long day on a golf course, coordinating logistics and cheering on players. But every swing put something real behind an organization doing work that genuinely changes lives. It was also a reminder of why I said yes to WIP in the first place: the causes that need us most are rarely the ones with the flashiest events, and the people who make a difference are the ones who keep choosing to be there anyway.
Grateful to be part of a community that keeps choosing to show up.
