This month CanvasRebel published a feature on me, and they opened with a question I've ruminated on more than once: if I could go back, would I have started my business sooner or later?

Neither, as it turns out. The timing was what it needed to be. I founded Aurora Talent Lab at the end of 2024, on the far side of a year that asked a lot of me; two profound losses in my family and a layoff not long after. It was a season of grief, but the pause that came with it gave me something I'd never made space for before: the chance to actually stop and think about what I wanted to build.

The truth is the idea had been quietly forming for years. Every time I watched an agency treat a company like a transaction, or ran into the same broken step in a hiring process, I filed away one more thing I'd do differently. There was always a reason to wait, though, until suddenly there wasn't. I couldn't picture walking into someone else's company and pretending I hadn't just been through what I'd been through. If I was going to rebuild, I wanted it to be mine.

In the interview I get into why an earlier start wouldn't have served me, how my years working in-house turned loose opinions into real conviction, and why the "right time" to build something as a working mom is mostly a decision you make rather than a moment that arrives.
